Code Of Welfare And Husbandry For Falconry

Falconers should be encouraged to not only 'meet' the expectations of good welfare, but to exceed them wherever possible. In the UK welfare is covered in law by the Animal Welfare Act and the 'Five Freedoms'; often used as assessment criteria to indicate where welfare is failing to be met.

An understanding of the law and requirements will help the falconer think about the welfare of their birds and ensure the highest standards are met.

This code of welfare and husbandry has been written by a group of knowledgeable raptor vets in order to summerise what is expected of falconers. We encourage you to download and read through the guidance, considering how it affects your own falconry activities on a daily basis.
